al-Ḥākim al-ShahīdBiography

Abū al-Faḍl Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Marwazī, al-Ḥākim al-Shahīd, was a great imām and faqīh. He served as qāḍī of Bukhārā and later became vizier to the Amīr al-Ḥamīd, ruler of Khurāsān.

His works include al-Ishārāt, al-Muntaqā and, most importantly, al-Kāfī, in which he summarised the books of Imām Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan, and on which al-Sarakhsī wrote his famous commentary al-Mabsūṭ. Al-Naqīb says he was killed in 334 AH; Mashāyikh Balkh gives 344 AH.
